The gourds are wonderful! The flowers and butterfly are terrific! I am so sorry about the horrible sting -- ugh. [If you rub plain ammonia into a sting hole and keep massaging until the sting relents, it's the fastest remedy I know.] Glad I caught up with your wonderful blog today (8/3/12)

A bit of information about Mountain Glen Farm...

Established in 1989, Mountain Glen Farm is a 180+ acre grass-fed beef cattle farming operation located in northern Rockbridge County in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Farm features: farm house; open, pastureland; timber land; pole barns and smaller farm structures; several natural springs; catfish, bluegill, bass stocked, spring-fed pond; and fabulous Blue Ridge Mountain views. And, privacy to the max. Other property features: extensive perennial gardens, vegetable garden, and a variety of fruit-producing plants - yes, we can be self-sufficient if need be.

In conclusion, a dream come true...

Over the years, changes and evolution of management practices have created a 'farm in progress.'

Currently, the home place farm has expanded to include two other farms, 55+ acres added in December 2011 and 160 acres added in May 2016. "55" is a fully-pastured tract with a spring-fed creek, historic hay barn and silo, livestock shed and small farm store. The "Jonestown" addition includes a vintage barn with silo, equipment shed, pole barn, livestock shed with attached workshop (Glenn's man cave), and rental apartments.

Our cattle operation has also expanded with the increased acreage. With our intensive rotational grazing management, pasture productivity and quality has and continues to improve benefiting livestock, forages, soils, and wildlife (including lots more and varied birds to photograph - yippee!)

Other animals in residence: egg-laying chickens; Ember, Becky's quarter horse; Jenny, the donkey; Buddy, rambunctious but lovable border collie; Snowball, Great Pyrenees with a mind of his own; and two cuddly cats; Onnie, and Missy.

People in residence: Glenn, Cyndy, and grown daughter Becky (from time to time on an as-need, which is all the time, basis). Son Matthew is a Captain in the U.S. Army and currently on farm-leave.

Farm life is FABULOUS!
